E-Locker test

Is there a way I can test my e-locker rear end to see if works? I bought it used and just bought an ORS e-locker harness and hooked it up and nada.

Can I hardwire something just to test the e-locker?

listen for the elocker to turn on. when you hit the switch you should hear it. Also. try engaging the locker and going around a turn. You will know if its on or not. sometimes mine doesnt engage untill i pull forward a little bit.

I'll try to roll it around and see it it engages but I can't hear it switch at all. Shouldn't the relays click also? My AUX light relay clicks.

I'd like to do a work bench test to confirm if its the locker or harness that aren't working properly.

Thanks for the replies

Go to this link and read the section on electrical mechanism (about half way down).

Thumbs down

OK, now im totally confused. Im looking at the diagrams on a couple different sites, and I see that the pins labeled 1 and 2 are used for unlocking and locking the diff with a 12v source.

So I hook my volt meter the the ORS kit and when the switch is Down I get a 12V reading on pin-3 when the switch is Up I get a 12V reading in pin-4. WTF? Pin-5 is grounded.

And also the "carterswebsite" diagrams have two connectors, a 5-pin and a 2-pin. The ORS harness has 1 5-pin. The factory harness I have from the axle to the body has a 5-pin and 2-pin connector.

Let me see if I can confuse you a bit more. A word of caution, I have never done this myself!

If you go to this link, you will find the Tacoma elocker wiring diagrams. These are the diagrams for your TRD elocker.

http://www.yankeetoys.org/Docs.htm

The TRD elocker has a 5 pin and a 2 pin wiring harness on the elocker which plug into a factory wiring harness which has one 8 pin connector on the other end. One of the pins is not used and two are grounds so normally you can use 6 conductor wire. I'm not sure how you're getting away with 5 conductor unless you are grounding at the elocker (which is fine BTW).

If you look at the elocker wiring diagram, you see two motor wires, LG-R and LG which are on pins 2 and 3 respectively. I think (but I'm not 100% positive) you put 12v on the LG wire to lock and 12v on the LG-R to unlock. The pin numbers that I am using are on the wiring diagram. Don't rely on the pin numbers, use the wire colors at the elocker.

Assuming that I am correct. If you want to lock it (I'm surprised it isn't locked as you normally install them locked), you need to ground the LG-R wire and put 12v on the LG wire. BTW, LG is light green, and LG-R is light green with a red stripe. To unlock, ground the LG wire and and put 12v on the LG-R wire.

Good luck and I repeat, I have never tried this!

Alright, that would have confused me enough to give up... if I didn't just sit in my garage for 3 1/2hrs playing with the little motor. But what you say is fact and would have helped if I came insde and read your reply.

It works, after re-wiring, disassembling and completely restoring the inside (racing RC cars for years finally paid off) then lining up the little clutch system and gears and... ahhh what a pain but it works and I'm happy now. Thanks for the help.

Now I have to put the motor back in so I can test it out.

Glad you got it working. Can you confirm my assumption that it's 12v on LG with LG-R grounded to lock and visa versa to unlock?

I'm designing an install with 2 TRD elockers on my 85 4Runner and I'm going to control it with an FZJ80 elocker ECU and switch. The 80 ECU will control two elockers. I'm trying to confirm a few of the pin to pin connections and that information would be of help.

Thanks.

When I was testing the motor I hooked a 12V to the LG(1) and ground to LG-R(2) and the motor would rotate clockwise (locking). Switch the wires 12V-LGR GRND-LG and the motor would rotate counter-clockwise (unlocking). Hope that helps.
