Diff gasket/sealant

If you know what this is, than you know how pissed I am. Just finished the e-locker swap, used Permatex Ultra-Gray and I got a leak. I prepped both surfaces with brake cleaner, then rubbed with alcohol, then applied and even put rings around the studs, set the diff on, hand tightened and then wait an hour, then tightened down. I even let the damn thing cure for 3 days before adding fluid.

Where did I go wrong? I do have the gasket but the machinist said it would be a waste. Should I have gone with the ultra black? The only reason I with went gray is it said it was for high torque applications.

Speak up, it's my first time with FIPG and evidently I'm not good at it

Ultra grey is where it's at. You said you hand tightened then waited an hour?
Last time I put a diff in, I torqued it down about half way, waited 20-30 mins then fully torqued. Haven't had any issues in 20K miles.

i used ultra gray, i wasn't bashful with it, thats for sure! there is gray stuff comin out of ALL sides. i hand tightened it, let it vulcanize for about 30-40 min and torqued it down. did you tighten the nuts down sequentially in a circle(bad)? or in a star like pattern to mate the surfaces evenly(good)? at a glance it just looks like you didnt use enough material

Toyota Black FIPG for diffs and oil pans
Toyota Red FIPG for trans/tcases

Nothing else necessary. It sets in about 15 minutes.

I've used all colors on the 3rd with the same results, no leaks! Hand tighten, then torque in a star pattern as stated above to 18 Ft lbs. This time don't wait to tighten.

Ya the ONLY thing I did that I wasn't 100% sure on, I used a "small" bead like the instructions said, thing I'm going to redo and SMOTHER the damn thing. Yep tightened it in a criss cross pattern like I use on my wheels
