Crank but no start

Hey guys and gals,
Working with an '85 pickup, 22r. 280xxx miles.
Months ago the truck died in motion while going down the highway. Luckily I was able to coast it to the off-ramp and come back to do some diagnostic.
I wasn't getting any spark. After forgetting that there were other things involved and then some hail mary's, I now now have new: pickup-coil(gapped correctly), rotor, dis cap and coil.
Still nothing.
After much research I found that most likely the ignitor had gone out. I had power going in, but still no spark.
Not having the $400 for an ignitor, I did a swap to a GM ignition setup.
Still nothing.
Until it finally started but seemed to take more cranks than normal. Ran and idled just fine.
3 days later, back to the same issue.

So my thought is the ignition switch. Maybe it's not allowing juice to the ignition module while cranking. (I only have so many hands and arms of limited length so I havent been able to test this with a volt meter) I am going over today to bypass the ignition switch completely to see if that's the problem.

If anyone has had this issue or has any ideas I would love to hear them as my work is taking me one a much longer commute in a couple weeks and my 3/4 chevy eats too much.

- Check the wiring, connectors for corrosion or looseness.
- Adjust the spark plugs gaps to 0.8 mm.
- Check the distributor assembly for proper ground.
- Check the body and chassis ground connection.
- Check the ignition switch.
