confused on replacing the steering stabilizer
#22
I've heard good things about Moog. Heck they make great ball joints and other front end parts I've used on other cars. Didn't really know they made steering dampers as I mostly have their coupe catelogs. Put RS5000 shocks on the other day. Really improved the ride (2nd gen, 6cyl-auto, 4runner).

I went to autozone and asked for a 87 toyota steering stabilizer, i bought the one that is for the OE brackets, when i got it home i took off the skid plate and noticed it was some what different, so im confused where do i get the proper replacement and or how do i make this one work, one end is too wide to fit in the frame bracket. the other is different, the original has a tie rod type end on it and the one i have looks like a reg shock end but with some nifty looking bolts if u need pics of the aftermarket let me know.

How did you remove that bolt that the old stabilizer is hanging from? I'm trying to change mine today but I can't remove that bolt.

Bolt removal
Howdy,
The bolt on my truck came right off. I did use some thread perpetrator, like liquid wrench. I see you have a propane torch in your truck. Try heating the bolt and letting it cool multiple times. When you try and remove the bolt, do so after it has cooled somewhat. Use lots of liquid wrench after you heat and cool the bolt. If it comes to it smack the cheater bar with a rubber mallet or hammer. If you have an pneumatic impact gun, use that. When you get it off, clean off the treads on the bolt and the piece that the bolts screws into, then coat the bolt in anti seize compound or use a tad of motor oil to prevent it from seizing again. Send me the pics of the aftermarket steering stabilizer. Mine was a Moog and bolt right up. If I recall, the big end fastened to the steering bar with a bushing and the little end went into the bracket on the frame.
