Cold weather affecting 4runner?

I was just wondering if the cold weather had anything to do with the shocks that hold the back hatch open (3rd gen 4runner).

I posted here because I know they are in more than just the 3rd Gens.

So do i need new shocks or "whatever their called" or is it just the cold weather?

Cold making fluid get thinner? Other way round, the cold will actually make it get thicker: hence why you need to have a hot engien to get all the oil out of it.

Those shocks do get worn over time. It coudl just be the cold making the seals get hard, and so not sealing properly.

cool thanks, don't want to spend $$$ if I don't need to. I'll have to wait for a warm day and see if they are just as bad.

If they ae bad are these dealer only parts?

yes the lift shocks will not hold as much weight when they are cold...its usually a sign they are starting to go out...you could probably make it through the next summer with them. (and they will probably work next summer)
