Does anyone know exactly what adjusting the pushrod on the clutch pedal does? Everyone says, 'it's to adjust your clutch.' Well duh, but if you adjust the pushrod all the way towards the driver seat, what affect does that have on the performance of the clutch and vice versa if the pushrod is adjusted towards the firewall. No one seems to know the answer so far. Anyone?

 

Well, it sets how far off the floor the clutch disengages and engages. For a given clutch, it will take so many inches of push rod travel at the m/c to make the clutch release. And your clutch pedal has a certain amount of physical travel. If the pedal height is too low, you will not be able to push down far enough on the pedal to release the clutch fully (that would make shifting hard). And if too high on the pedal height, you might possibly push the throw out bearing in too far and stress the slave cylinder or t/o bearing or something like that.

 

Well, that makes alot more sense now. Thanks. So as of right now, the pushrod is adjusted back towards the driver seat as far as it can. When I start out in 1st, the truck really doesn't start moving until the pedal is pretty much to the top with very slight pressure on it. So, would it help then to adjust the pushrod towards the firewall a couple of turns, then test it out and see if there's a difference?

 

The Factory Service Manual has the proper adjustment measurements. That might be a good place to start.
