Regarding the 1984 22R pickup on my sig line. Over the last month or so my clutch has been slipping some but not a lot. Saturday I went to Phoenix – if you’re not familiar with the drive north from Phx there is a fairly significant hill to climb. By the time I was headed for that hill there was significant slippage. I parked it off the freeway and then next AM got it to the top of that hill. Over the next day or 2 I’ll ease it home. Then I have a clutch to replace.

Budget is a consideration here and I have listed below 2 brands I am familiar with, and 1 I’m not but their price is the best. I know Aisin is the OEM and preferred by some here but they are over my budget for this.

If you have experience and/or input, good bad or other, with any of these let me know.

What do you want to pay for a clutch???

You can buy an Aisin pressure plate, disc, throw out bearing and pilot bearing kit complete on Ebay for less than 100 dollars.

I would like to keep the whole job under $100, but don’t know if the flywheel will have to be surfaced (that would require a 90 mile r/t to the closest good machine shop) plus any unforeseeable parts. The 3 I mentioned are significantly under $100 for the whole kit. In my experiences Beck/Arnley has always been quality parts. The ClutchXperts one is the least expensive and is relatively close. But I’ve never heard of them.

Beck/Arney products I have bought have most often been first rate, mostly real Japanese stuff; but I've gotten a few clunkers the last year or two. Nothing large, or expensive.

LuK used to be a mostly European supplier. I bought a new LuK 22r flywheel and it turned out to be chinese. I was disappointed, but I kept it.

I had its balance checked before I used it .It was OK and it is in my '87 Runner now. I know nothing of the ClutchXperts brand. Good luck!.

Beck/Arney is a parts reseller. They seem to be pretty good with most parts for our trucks (some are actually Genuine Toyota OEM parts) but do occasionally re-box cheap, low quality parts too.

Do you have links to the particular clutch kits you are looking at?

I do not have any first hand experience with these clutches because I have an automatic.......

Looks like the Clutchxperts part is a friction disc only.
Examination of the Beck/Arnley images shows the box to be marked Made in South Africa, but it is not clear whether it includes a pilot bearing.
Your link to the LuK set shows it to be used parts. NOT NEW

The Beck/Arney does not have much to go off of in terms of pictures, but the clutch cover (pressure plate) visually looks the same as the LuK and appears to have LuK branded wrap paper in the box.

That is about as far as I got.

Millball is right in that the lack of adequate descriptions is not helping matters much.

The Clutchxperts page only shows the friction disk under the "Components" description and is the only thing shown in the pictures.

The used clutch kind of leaves me wondering.......

Borrow a few bucks and buy the real deal. Not likely that you'll ever wear it out.

It's not about how much I can afford but how much I want to put into the truck before I sell it. I never intended to have this truck as long as I have so far.

I slipped my clutch for 4 years. (5th) It would not die. Flywheel? Was fine. Who cares, its not a race truck. If it chatters hard, then replace it. marlin and lce have them. Do not by a lightened one.

It was supposed to be a quick fix it (needed a timing chain and maintenance) deal. Then my Dodge W150 was hit while parked so I kept the Toyota for a while. A while turned into longer and it needed more work. Biggest issue for me is I don't fit in it comfortably - especially when wearing work boots or long drives. I like Toyotas but I need something like a 4Runner.

Yeah I get that and it is OK around most of my town - the parts without steep hills. Problem is I live in a valley every way out involves steep hills. So that limits where I can go with it.
