car backfire and stop while driving

car backfire and stop while driving
Hello ,
I was driving on the highway when the runner made a backfire sound and stop running , I try to crank it and did work , I was towed home . No engine light came up . I removed the time belt cover and the belt looks ok , I had replace the belt in 2011 and since drove the car only few times . Any ideas about what can be wrong ? . By the way it is a 94 with the 3.0 on it .
