Moving fuel filter location.

Moving fuel filter location.
On 2wd pickups (some 4wd too maybe?) the fuel filter is located on the passenger side frame near the rear wheel.
I was thinking about moving this filter into the engine bay somewhere.
Anyone done this? Have a picture of where you mounted it?
Is there any reason why it may be a bad idea to change it's location?

If you don't mind me asking, why move it?
And what year and model truck are you working on? My '98 T100 has a frame mounted fuel filter, but the fuel filter on my '94 2wd pickup is mounted on the passenger side of the engine, right below the intake plenum.

I've owned 3 toyota pickups during my life and have laid on the ground in the snow and cold on many occasions to struggle changing the fuel filter. It takes 10 minutes when it could take 2. When I have a truck performance issue I'd love to just have it right under the hood so that I can quickly check it and rule it out as a cause of an issue. It's just about convenience and accessibility.

Sounds like you have a 22r motor. I am thinking Toyota did for one year, in 82 if I am right, they had the filter under the hood. All others are by the rear tank like you mentioned up into the 90's. I cant see what it would hurt to move the filter. Where Toyota put it is not the best place to put it in my opinion.

Terry, what I was trying to point out is that it's in different places for each truck. My '90 4x4 3VZ had a frame mounted, but I think most 22RE trucks have it mounted under the intake manifold, avd like you said, it even varys with older trucks.
OP, what year truck do you want to do this on? I'm sure it's possible, just probably a little time consuming. Since you are saying that you have a truck with the filter on the frame, you could probably bypass the filter on the frame, then mount a filter somewhere under the hood. I know on my T100, there is a junction where the hard line from the frame connects to the soft line that goes into the motor.

This is the junction I'm talking about. Maybe you could find a similar junction on the truck you want to do this on and find the thread size to install a filter here.

My truck is a 1989 2wd 22r single cab base model. First year of the newest body style and the last year the 22r was offered.
I don't see it as being difficult at all to move. I would simply put a securely fastened coupler between the lines where the filter is now and then move the filter to under the hood shortly before the carburetor.
This is a picture of the exact little plastic filter:

Ok. I was thinking you were working with what I posted. I'd just grab yourself some appropriately sized fuel line from napa and have at it. With a system like that you should be able to put it just about wherever you want lol.
