A/C complete redo

Ok so I've made the decision to reinstall all new A/C components in my 89 Pickup. But my decision now is to either use the original R12 or the current R134a. Also I have heard that R134a is being phased out soon.

R12 I've read is better at cooling but more expensive.

R134a is cheaper at the moment.

What's the better choice ?

Well buy enough R12 to see you through the next couple of years then make up your mind

If they replace R134a it will need to be replaced with something that should be compatible

Not much of an expert but r12 Like you said is expensive and hard to get, might stick with the 134 mine is ice cold and fine. Haven't heard much on the 134 being phased out though? Please do tell when or where you heard this?

Anyway whatever you decide it will be great except the power loss is pretty depressing but being cool it's worth it

It MIGHT be replaced with hsf or something 1234y.

I've taken many classes on it but it has yet to be implemented

R12 will always be colder than 134. Dependent upon where you live 12 is readily available. Take a class on it, get certified and it becomes alot cheaper over the counter. Or just retrofit to 134. In the long run 134 isv the way to go if you can't obtain the 12
