Axle gasket material.

Gotta replace the wheel bearings in my 85 Van but I'm not finding the axle gaskets (which the book specifically says is a non-reusable part). I assume I will need to make my own but there are various types of gasket material to choose from. I was wondering what these gaskets are made out of originally? Called the local dealer but they haven't got back to me yet.

Thanks...

Clean and degrease the appropriate surfaces and put it back together with a light smear of Permatex Ultra-Gray sealant. No paper gaskets necessary.

Thanks, I found some OEM gaskets online on a site that had previously told me they didn't have them... I'll keep that in mind though.

Glad I ordered them. They're metal and more like a shim than anything. Had to re-order after the first one's were found to be discontinued. Genuine Toyota parts. I can't see these being made anywhere else.

Funny you asked because I was going to post one. I'm looking at the book and it appears the alignment marks are different on the two gaskets (one inner, one outer on the corner, not the bottom outer). I'm probably going to have to use a rotary tool to grind out the proper notch--provided the overall shape is correct--which it appears to be. The discontinued gasket shows the same photo. Solid, not flimsy.

Heres a much better photo of how well it fits...

I fabricated one out of paper. Its what was on there. There is a metal piece on the back of the brake housing that resembles it with the correct notch. Not sure what the notch is there for, it doesnt seem to get used. Maybe it makes for easier installation if i had to put the in. got it all back together and rolling. Tomorrow is the other side.

Part won't fit but they said it would in the catalog I ordered from. I had to put my vin number in for the RMA and they said based on the vin it would not fit my vehicle. They don't have a part that will fit, nor will they refund my money because the parts are not worth more than $8 each.

DO NOT ORDER FROM TOYOTAPARTSDEAL.com
