Differential Gasket from Checker for 7.8" Axle?
Hey guys, I have a 91 4runner 4x4 5speed with 31 inch tires from the factory and 4.56 gears. My axle code is G254, meaning i have an 8 inch axle. But the guy at checker gave me an diff gasket for a 7.8. Is this correct. Are the axle measurments and the gasket measurments refering to different things? Thanks

rear axle
I just recently did my rear end. If your going to do the seal on the 3rd member you might as well do the seals and bearings while you have the 3rd member out cause if you go back to do the shafts some other time you will have to pull out the 3rd member again in order to pull the shafts out.
It cost me around 240 from the stealer ship for new bearings, bearing retainers, new snap rings for the shafts and seals. It also costed 140 more to have the old bearings removed and the new ones put on at a local drive train shop cause they are pressed on by a machine.
All together, just a little under 400. Taking it somewhere probably would have been doubled or more. Its and easy job but smart to do it all at once. Its a good feeling that the whole rear end is done now and I dont have to worry about it. My 4Runner is over 17 yrs old so it was time for all that.
