Awhile back I bought a badge from a local Overlanding/Expedition forum I joined for the Pacific Northwest.

It is an all vehicle forum which is Toyota, Land Rover, Jeep, Mogs, and more.

I picked up some 3M Super Strength Molding Tape at Schucks Auto Supply, I hope it is the right stuff.



Here is the badge.



I imagine I use some wax remover such as Griots Paint Prep, and then apply the tape on the back of the badge in strips to voer the whole thing, and then press firmly against the sheet metal?
I have never done this before.

I am thinking of putting it on the rear door below where it says FJ Cruiser.

 

Yup, thats the right stuff, I work in a body shop doing collision repair, and thats exactly what we use, just wipe the spot down with denatured alcahol or some prep clean, then apply the badge, and wipe off the ch micals with some water..

It says to apply the tape at 65 degrees and above, it is only going to get to 58 degrees tomorrow.

Not sure if I should wait, or if that will be OK.

 

I think it would look better if you used the tabs on the sides and screw it on somewhere, maybe to the snorkel, along the fender, with silicone of course!

if your'e not going that route it would look nice if you CAREFULLY filed off the tabs.

You could use a heat gun or hair dryer to raise the surface temp of the spot in question. Then gently heat the area after application for a few mins. to aid the curing process.

 

To take off those tabs would require a trip to a machine shop, I do not have the tools to make it perfect.

No screw holes on my snorkel

I thought about drilling into the ARB bumper up front, not sure yet.
I could always tape it on the back still, and then use fake black screws glued over the holes or something.

Hair blower would work Paul, I still have mine I use to use thirty years ago

 

An idea...
I was just outside with the badge and I think it will look best from the rear, and not the front of the rig.

Another spot came to me, the hub cover for the wheels.
It could be screwed to the cover for the spare tire.

If you want to screw it down I'd go on the gray plastic under the Toyota by the lower left hinge opposite the plate. I think it looks kinda dorky on the hub... but that's just me...

 

Installed today.
I may change the location in the future.
One thing with this tape though is it does raise the item above the sheet metal more than the factory emblems.
They must use a thinner tape?

Also installed an Overland Journal sticker above the YotaTech sticker over on the left side of the window.

 

Looks good corey but you should get a couple of round top SS philips head screws cut off the shanks and super glue the heads into the holes on the badge. It will look a lot nicer.

 

I just use double sided tape. it has held my hood ornament on through the roughest roads, the thickest mud and the most insane monsoon season yet.

All out of Super Glue, will have to get more.
The stuff I used was double sided too, just thicker than I would like.

 

Thin is good... the tighter they are to the body the less room there is for water and dirt to get behind and the harder it is for vandals to pry them off on you.
