Stock on a 3rd gen is 2.25". Go to 2.5" only if you're planning to get S/C at some point, preferably sooner than later.

I have a question on my T I have about 4-5ft of pipe behind the muffler how much would that effect how loud the truck is? I don't want to rattle the windows but its way quiet right now and I figure that the 18" would be just about right with that extra pipe behind it. Anyways I was just wondering thanks.

For those who want to have a stockish sound, go with the 24"=30" overall. the 18"-24"overall is too loud
I am in the exact same boat as you, I don't like it on the highway. I don't mind it around town.

That's too bad you don't like it. Maybe after a week or two it will grow on you.

can I still get a 24"/30" magnaflow muffler even though my exhaust is 2.25"?

It would have to have a 2.5" inlet or larger. What size motor do you have?

cootees- I have a 3vze with a 2.25 jardine exhaust and thorley headers.
it is really loud and I want to quiet it down, and you and my mechanic have both recommended 18-24" magnaflow, but guys on this thread say that is too loud. so I am considering the 24-30, but they don't make it for the diameter tubing of my exhaust. so that's why I was leaning towards the flowmaster 50SUV (triple chamber) as they make it for the 2.25. that said, you mentioned that the sound of the 3 chambers is raspy, so I am SCREWED!
don't know which way to go, if I put on the 18" magnaflow I am sure the sound will rock, but I bet it will be noisy.

What about an 18-24 with resonator? I wonder how that would sound...how does a resonator work, do I lose a lot of performance, do you recommend them, and which one?

also if you have one that you have good prices on (muffler or exhaust) let me know. sounds like you wouldn't put a flowmaster on, any reason? have you installed 50 SUV and 70?
