aisin IFS hubs vs. aisin straight axle hubs
I am looking to do away with my add system on my toyota.
one of my friends has a stock aisan hub from a 85 straight axle. i need to know if this will work with my 1991 4runner that has ADD. ( you know the same thing i had as a kid)
anyways i plan on getting rid of all the vaccume lines and other stuff to basicly simplify the truck. so the ADD diff would be constantly locked and manual hubs in place of the live hubs that come stock with that pesky add disorder.
will straight axle hubs work on my ifs truck?

no you need ifs hubs solid axle hubs have different spline count.. they are worth a little more too.
find ifs hubs usually 50 bucks around from a junkyard.. i found a couple pairs for 20 each when i was looking..
rebuilt and put them on my trucks!
one of my favorite easy mods.
the add is still hoked up so if you have your hubs locked you can still drive in 2wd until you put it in 4wd then its in.. but if the hubs are unlocked and you put it in 4wd it stays in 2wd the axle flanges you take off are like locking hubs that are always locked!

Joshua, check out eBay or the classifieds on this site. The IFS Aisin hubs are a "dime a dozen" compared to the solid axle Aisin hubs.

When you replace the ADD hubs with the manual IFS hubs, do you eliminate the vac crap that operates the ADD and just lock it in place or do people normally leave the actual ADD system in place? I don't see a real point in doing it unless you do away with the wntire system, vac lines, switches and lock the diff in place so you can use the hubs to engage 4wd.

It would also suck to have a vac line fall off or a connector fall off and disable 4WD. I like the idea of my CV's not turning when I'm just cruising around in 2WD. Less rolling resistance and it will add a ton of life to the CV's.
