Your kidding me, right? YOU can't get that truck out? I have been it way worst situations and I have got my truck out. You guys need to try a little harder. Not busting balls either.

Keep in mind this is coming from a californian...but for a worst case scenario shouldn't he be prepared to stay out there for multiple nights? When I go anywhere close to snow I take extra survival gear for the conditions.

 

I think its a pretty sad thing when your obviously stuck and someone would take advantage of that. What happened to leaving other peoples stuff alone? Very sad.

 

Damn you guys live near some mean people. I wouldn't worry about leaving my truck stuck. People around here don't seem to mess with stuff like that. A few years back I got my '89 Honda Civic hatchback stuck in the mud while camping in the rain ("off-roading" in a Civic lol), and left it for a week till the the ground dried up. Nothing was touched on it.

same when i lived out east - i had to leave my '84 out a few times over night and no one touched a thing. we had alot of forestry going on around my hometown so the guys running the skidders were usually willing to haul us out for a few bucks. if they couldn't get you out your only option was to pack it out one part at a time!

 

One of my buddies blazer broke 3 axles and a steering knuckle at uwharrie on kodak rock. We took all that we could fit in the runner, then I drove out while he and my Dad walked infront of me. He came back the next day and started fixing it, finished it the day after. Noone messed with it, mostly because there wasnt anything to mess with besides the windshield.

 

Not to be harsh, but I was kind of thinking the same thing. It looks steep, but a set of chains (still cheaper than all the damage) would have gone a long ways. Heck, a basic pair of 31x10.50 twisted links would be less than $150 for two pair.

i have seen two "abandoned" trucks, one had a note saying "if you see this truck call this # i will hook you up" tried to call but no answer..... left a message but no call back.

the other was stuck with the keys in it...... we hooked the winch to it and pulled it up the hill. we yelled before to see if anyone was in the woods, no answer. the next day we say the truck at the gas station and talked to the guys...... they were hiding because they thought we were the cops..... didnt even come over when my bro was winching and i was driving their truck....

 

I had to leave my 4runner in a parking area off of the Blue Ridge Parkway because of 3 feet of snow with 6 foot drifts. It was 3 miles from the nearest plowed road. I wasn't able to get it back for 2 weeks. Luckily no one messed with it. The parkway was still closed so we had to go a back woods route.

 

Assuming nobody has a winch, put the chains on the tow vehicle and get him to where the tow truck will pick it up at least...If that isn't enough, "train" two tow vehicles together...

 

Only been through that area once, in '91, on business. But I do remember the Blue Ridge via the parkway is purty country.

 

He skipped work today to head out with a Tow truck and winch it out. I stopped by there after work and it was gone.

Tried to get a photo of the area to show exactly why it was a complicated procedure, but this whole Sunrise at 10:07am and Sunset at 3:46pm thing doesn't accomodate that very easily

 

This is just a generalization, but i thought canada was a crime free, peace loving country. At least thats what Michael Moore said. seriously though, I've seen stuck vehicles on the trail and other than looking at the carnage, like a busted axle on a jeep, I just leave 'em alone. Although most of the guys who wheel around Tucson are pretty cool, I'll never leave my truck over night.

 

about 6 years ago I had to leave my 92 f150 over night I felt it was better to leave it unlocked.
I took out my stereo face plate.
then walked 7 miles to the the only pay phone near there I got home at 5 am next morning called my dad at 8am could not sleep thought the worse was going to happen .
got there at 9 am got it out with a come along nothing was broken but the auto lockers that where on it and my pride.
(had 2 girls with me when we got stuck and one of their friends was the one that had to come get us all of my friends where too drunk to drive)

 

yea, i had to leave my good ole dodge dakota in a swamp. water was right up to the doors. and o yea, it was government property, so i had a cop accompany me along with my buddy who owns a dump truck bussiness haul it out. the cop thought it was hilarious, and let me go with a warning. my friends f150 wouldn't take it out.

 

shoulda left the dodge in the swamp.
