91 4 runner advise?

I need some advise on a 91 4 runner .I drove a 85 4 runner 22r 5spd for about ten years .And loved it it was tough as hell got reasonable fuel mileage and was a great reliable vehicle for me but the body just rotted off it.We need a second vehicle now so I'm looking at getting a 91 4 runner it has been undercoated since new had a bunch of brake work and exhaust work done and is a pretty good looking rig.It is a base model no frills 4cyl 22r 5spd 4 runner .What am I to expect from this rig as in fuel economy, reliability, performance ...? What I'm a bit worried about is if the motor is really big enough for the bigger 4 runner it was fine in the 85 I had but it was a smaller rig .Or should I look for a V6 with a 5spd?? I may be putting on a bit of a lift and some bigger tire (no bigger than 31's)But mostly I need it to be a daily driver not a offroad machine not to say it won't get off road.Any input info thoughts or opinions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

The second gen is the bastard child in the 4Runner lineup. Want a trail beater? get a first gen. Want a good driving, offroad capable vehicle? Get a third gen.

The second gen has the "stone age" powertrain in the heavy body. First gen has the light weight to allow good performance with the limited early motors. Third gen has sufficient power/mileage to compensate for the heavy body.

I think you will be disappointed by a 4cyl srcond gen. You can easily fit 31's at stock height, saving you money on lift, though.

Thanks ! that's sorta what I thought that the 4cyl would be too small if the 3.0 v6 is known as 3slow then the 22r even though a great motor is probably too small for that body size unless they did something with the gearing.Too bad the rig is in good shape but I drive a gutless rig now I want a bit more umph!!
