90 4runner engine swap

I recently acquired a '90 4runner with the 3.0 v-6. As the engine is bad I knew going into this that I would have to replace it. The question I have which is the better swap. A chevy v-6/-8 or another 3.0 v-6? The Chevy engine is less expensive, but after adapters, new exhaust, unforseen circumstances, etc, I feel that I might be spending more money just getting it back on the road? Any suggestions?

oh...in addition I already have 2 bronco 2's here. Would the 2.9 v-6 work? They both got parked up due to sorry auto trannys, and tired of throwing money in them
