5vz-fe engine: rebuild or replace?

I have a 95 t100 w/ the 5vz-fe engine (200k miles). It had a blown head gasket, and there was coolant leaking into cylinders 5 and 6.

I replaced all the gaskets and cleaned every thing thoroughly. I replaced the timing belt and water pump as well.
When i started it back up, it ran very rough.I checked compression, and the left half of the engine is good (140,140,130), but the right half was blown (0,0,50) (cylinders 1,3,5). After running at idle for 15ish minutes, the check engine light came on w/ error codes for cylinder 1 3 and 5 random misfire.

I'm going to tear her down again and take the right head to a machine shop. I didn't take it into a machine shop originally but inspected it thoroughly with a straight edge and everything looked good.

At this point im contemplating replacing the whole engine. I dont want to replace the head and find bad compression again. The pistons and cylinders looked good, no scarring etc.

Any advice would be great
Thanks

I have a similar issue and the same question. I don't think that I have a head gasket issue, but I could be wrong. I am curious as to if there are any companies that offer camshafts that are a little bit torquier than the stock camshafts. I may eventually have to bite the bullet and buy a junkyard engine. If that happens (I am at 210,000), i will inevitably go thru the engine to make sure all is well, and while I am at it, I might as well make it a little bit stronger. I know it's gonna take a little bit of cash, but it will beat trading a truck in for a measly 3,000 if I decided to trade it in for something else. Besides, I love my truck and don't wanna give it up. so hopefully this will get some eyes here.

Rebuild it....its one of the best engines toyota made!!

Before you go about making rash decisions, check the camshaft timing on the bank without compression, its wierd that one whole side of the engine had low compression, when it didnt before, also check to see if you put the headgasket on right! Sometimes thats a problem...I know on the 22re the bolts are torque to yeild, I dont know about the 5vzfe engine, but if they were did you replace them...there are a lot of factors that could go about explaining this!
