Hullo everyone. I am doing a 5VZ-FE build up and casting about for a crank swap. I don't seem to have found a place in Australia that will do an exchange .This has lead to me wondering about going the forged 3VZ-FE crank out of the Camry. I see these around and I just want to check I got the part number right before I pull the trigger on one.
3VZ-FE crank from Camry - 13401-62010
5VZ-FE original crank - 13401-62030
Have I got that right? Also if somebody has an idea why the non forged 5VZ-FE crank is better feel free to elaborate. I've seen the threads talking about the forged ones being better. But not entirely sure if this is mythology or not. What I do know is the Camry ones with that part number are a reasonable price and available where I am here in Australia.
Sure. Collecting bits gradually. New block is currently in engine stand. Have ordered up the Camry crank and waiting for that to arrive. Purpose of the build. Old motor ( Here in Australia the Land-Whale it is in we call it a Prado ) has done +500K and is tired. Needs new rings most likely. Problems with oil fouling. So instead I want to build a motor to do another 500K but that is easier to work on. Sick of digging in to it every few years to replace injectors and such like. Pretty much all labour on it has been top end. So my plan is to delete the rails. The injectors. Delete all of it Then put a Holley Sniper EFI where the existing EFI throttle body was. I had a look around and seen a few examples of them side drafted. Delete all the Toyota ECU which also will at least give the thing ODBII! But the thing I have been pondering is what to do about the transmission. Has been rock solid. A340f. But mostly we use the vehicle for small truck runs not pulling a boat. Things like dragging around old building materials. So maybe also a delete on the transfer case. Or at least deleting some of the insides. In my conversations about this nobody seems to do a manual locker. Anyway sooner or later is going to eat itself or the transfer case will. The chain in it has developed the death rattle. I expect it will all have to come out. Would like to select something a bit more generic to replace it all with. Trying to figure out how to graft it in to the Holley stuff to the transmission is hurting my brain. Have not been able to convince the misses to go with a manual which would make life easy. She likes the auto so whatever I do it needs to stay auto. And before anyone says just go LS1 when I sat down to work it out the cost of getting one in a crate wasn't much cheaper than the build I am doing. Part of the reason for that is the block I scored was from a Toyota dealer clearance. Got brand new block for fraction of what it would have cost normally. Still need to get it dye tested and make sure they did not drop it off a shelf or something.
Camry crank has turned up. Looks good so far. I went through my 5VZ-FE fsm document today and I could not see the torque settings for the mains girdle bolts or the pattern for undoing them? When this block came in the box the girdle was already bolted in to it and they feel torqued up. Do those bolts need to be replaced after a torque cycle ? Not sure if the block comes like that from factory?
