5-speed or Automatic: which one do you have?
#41
4 speeds are all i've ever owned
hopefully, i'll soon own a 5 speed pre-85 truck or runner. none of that ifs crap for me. however, people think that toyotas in crummy shape are still worth their weight in gold. i recently saw a beat up '79 for sale for 3500, nothing special about the truck at all

I suspect that his original guess was pretty close. Now if this was a housewife's BB or soccer dad BB then it would probably close to 100% auto. We like to work on our trucks and like to wheel them - pretty much the people who want to shift their own gears.

pff, all trucks should be manual. automatics should be left to lincolns and such
i bet a few of you remember when toyota 4x4s were only available in manual, now it's pretty much the other way around

5 speed for me. Not enough action with an auto. I find myself falling asleep at the wheel with an auto. Not enough control either. I hate that surge you get with autos as your braking and you still feel the engine accelerating. With the 5 speed its right to nuetral and brake. Saves on gas also.

Auto in America, 5 sp. manual in Germany and rest of Europe.
I like a manual tranny, but I am not too gentle on it because my driving habit is like Ivan "Ironman" Stewart. I already destroyed 5 sp. manuals twice on my old '79 VW Scirocco and '88 Toy 4Runners with V6 eng. a several years ago. Both of them got the cracked housing near the shaft end' bearing due to the stress.
Auto tranny on my '89 and '98 4Runners seems living up very well on me. Every time I go to Germany, I would rather to rent a car with manual tranny, because they offer the cars that come with the close ratio tranny, which it is perfect for me to cruising on Autobahn between 200 to 260 km/h and around the mountain road in Alps.

ATX for me. (Auto Trans) I've always bought MTX (Manual Trans) in the past but I'm enjoying the automatic, especially around town.
Don't seem to notice much difference on the trails. Just changed over to Amsoil ATF today and it works great, no probs.
