If found this add recently on a local 4x4 site.

v6 430 gears 150$
2 sets of 430 v6 ring and pinions oem toyota from e lockers in exellent condition 150$ obo

I suspect it is from a Tacoma with the E-locker that a guy is parting out as he is parting out other parts from a 2000 Tacoma in other adds in the same for sale section.

Would that be all I need to change the gear ratio in my rear differential (the ring & pinion) or would I need anything else? Also, would those 4.3 gears work in my diff (I have stock 4.56 gears right now and I'm sticking with stock size tires, but I wouldn't mind the slightly reduced revving for highway driving from the higher gears, well, ever so slightly, and I plan to put an exhaust on so it would make up for any torque loss anyways). I think the guy already sold the e-locker unfortunately.

don't do it!

you'll miss the 4.56 gears, and that small of a jump isn't worth it. not to mention it's not a job for the occasional mechanic, and setting up gears tends to cost quite a bit. with 4.56 gears, 31" tires ARE the recommended size. your engine is designed to rev up in that range.

Yeah the only thing I'm not a fan of, and this is coming from a fisherman who does a bit of highway driving to get to the distant fishing spots (IE such as a 2500 mile road trip last fall up north, and others planned for later this year) the fact that my truck rev's so much on the highway. I mean I Like to cruise the truck at around 65-70 MPH if I can (usually stay around 60 MPH though), but the RPM's are around 3000 plus (at 60 MPH it's at about 2750). Being someone who is "sensitive" about the state of my truck (the ONLY thing I am sensitive about, other then that I am an A-hole) my goal in this was to see if I could bring those RPM's down a little, but I felt the 4.30 would still maintain the driveability and the revving up (and the amplified torque) around town, the part I like about the 4.56's anyways, but give me a little more of a highway edge. What I think would be perfect for me would be to have like higher highway gear. LIke for instance instead of a 0.84 5th gear, which is what I have now, have like a 0.75 or something like that. I guess either way you look at it, a gear change, or pulling the tranny probably wouldn't be worth the cost in gas you would save for less revving on the highway. But then again can you also measure things like added wear and tear on your engine from running it at higher RPM's? Yeah Yeah, slow down, I know, I know.

Keep in mind those are both rear setups, I saw the ad too. They regeared elocking diffs.

actually less revving on the highway isn't always a good thing. keep in mind that if the engine is always loading up the EGR valve might not function properly(it opens when there is little load on the engine and saves gas). when you wind up these engines on the freeway, they don't have to work as hard as when you lug them down. a little over 3000RPM should be perfect at 70mph(to put things into perspective, my old factory 20R/4 speed combo would turn about 4000 at 70).
