The bigger the tire the smaller the rock...Size Matters.

Shucks folks...., I'm nearly speechless. No, but I am lucky enough to have good spots to go have a right gnarly bit o' fun from time to time(3-4 days a week, if I'm gettin' my way). Any Toyota will do just like mine. You should see the boys that get me all green with envy. I usually just kinda scurry away with my tail between my legs. I am the sole moron, that I know of, that will break his truck tryin' to get up the trails these dudes blaze up. They drive Toyotas, but with solid axles, lockers, traction bar/multi-link set-ups, etc. Some day I'm gonna get no eff'n around serious, like these fellas. And what I maybe should have said is they ALL drive Toyotas, never seen anything else that has compared in ability. The jeepers can't do squatola around here.

Albuquerque Jim, nice pics, your welcome

also the bigger the tires, the better approach/departure/breakover angles too, and of course the added clearance underneath. my first time out on the 35's was in deep snow, and i did much better than i have with the 33's. the clearance was a night & day difference for me.

of course you can fit 35's with minimal lift, but most i know would rather go (more) susp lift than body. of course, get the body up high enough, and you wont have to worry about rubbing as much as someone with say a 1" body lift and 2~3" susp lift. your only concern then would be wheel fitment. that said, im running approx 2.5~3" susp lift + 1.5" body.

to me, anything over 2" body lift is just too tippy IMO...but i do agree with you when you say people should look into trimming more. reasonable lift, and just get rid of whatever gets in the way under full crank & full stuff

I'm wanting to go bigger to 33s and adding 1" body lift for 2.5" lift total. 35s look badass but I don't need them that big.

4BanginRunner I love how your signature says that your truck is "Awating more lift!"

my buddies got 35" BFG A/Ts on his jeep, and he wants to upgrade to M/Ts. he's offered to sell me his old tires for $200.

I'm thinking 2" body/drivetrain lift. 2" lift springs, 1.5" BJ spacers....and I'll be MORE than set. my truck's sitting on AALs and a little tbar tension, with 31s and miles of fender gap. I probably won't have to do any trimming.

I think the really important thing to keep in mind, is DRIVETRAIN lift. I could make my lifted subaru wagon go places it just shouldn't have, because it didn't have any crap hanging down under the middle of the rig. well, I can't say the same about the 4runner.....

I just put 35's on my runner now, yeah I did the SAS route and 4" of lift blah blah, I just like sitting higher . I ran 33's before and most of my friends run 32'-33's. and we go over the same rocks as ABQJim. Anyway I gotta go bail, I need to go finish some work on the rig to get it 1 step closer to being done. Look for an update on my thread soon. I got some more pics, but my other computer crashed and burned and it had a lot of my pics on it o I need to upload more to this one.

When I chose my 37" tires, I was not really thinking about how big the holes are getting in Las Cruces or Moab's Rocker Knocker, I was thinking about ground clearance. When airing down any tire, you loose ground clearance. So, I chose a respectable size tire that could be managed on the highway, and yet when aired down, still gave me ample ground clearance.

As for lifting the rig. That has been the result of stronger components. Coils in the rear were not strong enough, so I now have leaves. The IFS setup in the front was not strong enough, so now I have a D44. Yes, I could have gone with leaves, but that also reduces your approach angle. Approach angle is very important in Las Cruces when one is trying to climb very large rock ledges. As well, the coil-overs give a better ride on road and off-road.

So, I ended up where I am due to a desire to have stronger components. While I'm looking at reducing my ride height, I'm not worried about it. I have a wider stance than a stock 4Runner, and yes, I'm a bit taller than a stock 4Runner. But, as you all have seen, I can still push the 4Runner to about 40* and keep the rubber down. I would say that my Center of gravity is just about right.
