22re exhaust studs

Okay so in 2007 the PO had the motor rebuilt by a company. Since I bought the truck a year ago I have been suffering with engine problems left and right. its a 22re on an 1985 pickup. My most recent problem is that an exhaust stud the lower most right one fell out. I tore everything down this morning manifold gaskets and such took a trip to my local Toyota dealer and bought a new stud and bolt for 10$, and thankfully the threads were ok and the new stud works perfect. and all other studs are tight to the hand.

Now my natural instinct is to replace them all while im this far but

A. I dont want to make any issue say if one stud breaks off in the head

So should I call it good? any recommendations? I was planning on using loctite grey anti seize.

Okay I'm just gonna leave the other studs for now, I don't think that should be a problem ?

From my experience, once they come out, I have never been able to get them to stay in. So then I would replace the manifold or put on a header. I personally am not a fan of headers as they do seem to leak. One fix I have recently heard of, but havent tried is to have them helicoiled. Dont know if it works or not.

I have also tried new studs and nuts but never worked for me.

My only recommendation is to buy your hardware from the auto parts store and not the dealer. I had some broken exhaust studs and I got a pack of several of them for around $5. I would leave the rest of them in there though. You can rent a "thread restore" kit from the auto store too. Similar to a die. Clean up those current stud threads and put anti-sieze on them so the next time you gotta torque on em they won't be as likely to break. Also, red loctite the one you're putting back in to keep it from vibrating out. AND USE A TORQUE WRENCH! You can rent of those too if you don't have one. Most parts store just charge you for the tool but you give you a full refund when you bring it back.

Red face

How could replacing a manifold help??

Last I looked the studs were screwed into the head.

If the others were tight I would not mess with it.

Did you get the stud with the torx head and a nice all metal lock nut.
