The awesome and revered 22R. The best internal combustion engine ever? I certainly think so, after having driven and owned two of them and being soon to own another (I'll cover that in a different thread). I know certain people, such as CoedNaked, would probably disagree, but I can understand and respect his take on the subject. So please don't hate me if you disagree. I'd like to hear your guys' comments.

Oh and by the way, I'm actually second generation Japanese-American. I spent a lot of time in Japan, though. I actually learned English and Japanese simultaneously and know them both equally well. I was born here in Colorado.

Haven't posted in awhile, because the internet was down (a lightning strike occurred about 4 hops from the main office in Nederland).

18/20/22 R series of engines were "top o the heap" for their era.

IMHO - not longer so...

I do like how they are in Forklikfts here in the USA - running propane

Technology-wise, I most certainly agree. But I have such fond memories and current experiences of and with the 22R/22R-E, and plus they've been around alot longer and so have more miles. That will change, though.

I dont know the asnwer to this but...

Are the 2RZ/3RZ series of 2.7L engines as "high tech" in terms of enginnering (metals, alloyws etc) as the 18/20/22R were?

Or have Toyota engineers expended their efforts int other motors (Lexus V8 etc)

Well, one would hope that after 22 tries, they finally got it right!

The 22R/RE has a GREAT balance of power/torque and efficiency. It's a marvelous motor (especially for its time), but I don't know if I would say best ever... The NSX motor had higher specific power, for example. The small-block Chevy has to be in there for sheer versatility and longevity...

yes. I completely agree on all of those points. I really love old school Chevy muscle, almost as much as I love Toyotas.
