1st Gen + 3rd Gen = Badd A$$
I was thinking about rebuilding the 22re in my 1987 4runner and the thought crossed that i can buy a severely rolled 3rd gen for about the same cost as upgrading the things that need to be done on my 1st gen.
SOO why not take the rolled 3rd and remove the bad body and bolt up the body from my 1st gen to the 3rd gen frame and drivetrain.
Will It work or am i just crazy?

anything is possible if you have the welding & metal fabrication skills you might have to move the rear axle forward and relocate body mounts.
and making the instrument cluster work might be a pain.

thanks that looks like a great starting place. I t may be easier to do 3.4 swap but i would want the whole drive train from the 3rd gen anyway. My runner has the auto a340h or f it's a turd. no gearing available for it, so i would have to do the tranny and t-case anyway why not just do it right?

Probably an easier process than swapping bodies and making custom body mounts.
