Arrow 1988 Hiace 4x4 2.4 diesel

Hello, I am looking at a 1988 Toyota Hiace for sale here in Winnipeg. It is a 4dr, 4x4, 2.4l non-turbo diesel truck, right hand drive Japanese import with 160000kms.
Now, does anyone know anything about a truck like this? Is the 2.4 diesel a strong engine? Is the Japanese engine and drive train the same or different from North American parts? What North American vehicles is this truck compatible with for drivetrain and body parts? It looks like a Hino truck cab. Is 160km high miles for a 2.4 commercial diesel engine? I have reams and reams of Japanese service reports, does anyone read Japanese? Is the 1988 4x4 strong? Please advise.
Thank you.

The Hiace was sold simply as a "van" here in the United States. They came with 3yc 2.0L and 4yc 2.4L gas engines (derived from Fork Lifts) No diesels.

Not sure about Canada.

We did get the 2.4L 2L diesel here in the USA for a few years in 2wd pickups, 1981-1985. They produce less power than the 2.4 22r gas motor though.

My question for you is, "does it have a solid axle?".

Because, NO an 88 4x4 ISN'T strong if it's IFS, IMO.

You did say HIACE right? That's a van, not a truck. HILUX is a pickup truck.
