YotaTech is moving later (new search engine 1 25 2010)

Down the road we are moving to a bigger dedicated server.
We are growing once again out of our britches as the membership continues to grow each day here and more and more demand is put on the present server setup.

Today there may be a 15 minute downtime as some work is done on the present server.

Also a new search engine will be deployed which should be faster than the current one.
And the database will be optimized to run smoother.
You may have noticed the forum timing out yesterday when posting or editing a current post.
I know I did, it happened several times to me throughout the day.
The optimization should clear that issue.

I have not changed the layout in quite awhile.
Some sections though may have "models/years" added to them though such as the Build Up area.
That has been brought up in the past, and it would make it easier to find build ups that way.

Also on the search issue, I do not have a problem with the present one.
I know some say search does not work for them, but I use it daily and have no issues with it.
I always find what I am looking for.

Try the search engine please.
Tech installed a new faster/smarter search engine today, and Brian (Wabbit) checked it out earlier.
This is my first chance to test it just now, as it has been a very busy day at work.

I typed in Black Diamond and several hits came back.
I mention Black Diamond in a few different mountain bike threads as that is a local town not far from me with some prime mountain biking.

The search came back almost immediately.
Seems to work very well for me.
Please try it out and see if you get better results than before.

Just tried it and it worked great.
Seems faster and the results seem more relevant.

Yesterday I typed in just the word Droid and did not choose my name as the poster or choose a section.
What came back were correct threads, and the one I was looking for was at the top.

The new search engine is very good.

I feel silly for asking this since I figure a mod should know and I don't but how are the servers set up for the site?
Are they all housed at IB now on rails or what are they?

The I.T. part of me still comes out every now and then and I get curious...

The servers are housed in the brains of cylons
Sorry, watching Caprica on the Sy-Fy channel right now.

They are in a data center that has battery backup in case of a power failure.
They are big servers.
And before long we may be going to a much bigger one to handle our growth.

Gotcha - that's pretty neat.

I'm getting ready to do my monthly classifieds cleanup...probably get rid of maybe 100-500 posts in each section so that will help a little.

Update

This Thursday we will be shut down for maybe up to one hour.
The database dedicated server has been purchased, and the database will be moved to it Thursday.

The forum should work better than it currently does.

I hope everyone has noticed an improvement with the new search engine too.

I do not want to hear the search engine here does not work
I was wanting to watch this morning a YouTube video I posted months back of Alice and Chains.
I used advanced search and put in Alice and my membername and chose "show posts."

Showing results 1 to 10 of 10
Search took 0.03 seconds.

.03 seconds and it was the third hit down.

Search here is awesome.
