BFGoodrich KO2 Rocks To Riches Contest

BFGoodrich KO2 Rocks To Riches Contest-8aimrtr.jpg

BFGoodrich has launched their all new KO2 Tire and sent 11 trucks on a journey through the desert to compare and evaluate the tire on the trails.

This event, dubbed RocksToRiches, began in Barstow, CA and we traveled 150+ miles off-road through the Mojave National Preserve to end up at the New York, New York Hotel in Las Vegas. Our team was guided by Maka and Miro from Miromak.com in one of their ‘JEEPMAK’ Jeep JKs. Take a look at our dream off-road trip, as BFGoodrich now wants to give another user on the site a chance to win four (4) new BFGoodrich KO2 Tires by describing their own trip. See contest details at the end of this post.

Here are some great photos that were captured of the trip including shots of YotaTech users ChefYota4x4, Redeth005, and JonnyBoy.

It was a lot of fun following that trip through Mark's Instagram! I think THAT trip would be pretty high up on my list of dream trips. I haven't gotten my 4Runner out of central Texas (I spend my time at Hidden Falls and I've made it out to Katemcy once so far) so I'm still in need of exposure to the classics. Moab is what I have my sights on right now.

[Edit] I've been thinking about this more, and I'd really love to run the Doran and Odessa trails in Calico. They look like the type of trail I enjoy the most right now... slow technical rocks and walls that snake through tight places.

My mud terrains are pretty worn down... could really use some new shoes soon...

Thanks! KO2's really surprisd me, in a good way, regarding grip on loose Trail soil and a bit of climbing, and recently, in the rain, which was pretty torrential over here, they just never want to let loose. I was almost getting upset that I couldn't drift a little bit, lol. I would say they are hands down a better tire than their predecessor, The AT/KO1..... Even out on those loose, very fine Telkom like dusty trails, I would hit a turn at about 35 40 where I normally would drift a bit on the KM2's.... NOPE! Lol... I literally came close a couple times, in the turns, to over driving into the turn and got close to the edges... Nothing dangerous, but it was all because I'm just more used to my off road tires letting loose a bit at higher speeds.

There is tons of information regarding the testing and a few studies they've gone through in the process of research and development... Even at the Hammers, they took it like a boss!... Quite amazing... I suppose that's part of the reason they waited so long to release their newest all terrain.... The first ones we're pretty indestructible, and I had a set last a hundred thousand miles...These KO2 have been quite surprisingly aggressive, compared to the predecessor in regards to sidewall grip and a bit of the step they put into the design on the edge between side wall and tread. It's a strange but very effective recess toward the top of the sidewall. Every nob is sipped, which should help with longevity and trill ready effectiveness, whether on the rocks or mud or otherwise.

I just want to again say thank you, very much, Nolan, ....and cool pictures! Can't wait to see the rest! Did the undercarriage GoPro turn out a couple good ones? I'm going to do a proper thread and write up, as always.... Work and caregiving are just a beast right now! Lol....

Little something to get people posting up, so they can win a set of these for themselves!

LET'S GET THE PICS COMING IN! Post this in your own threads and drop the link in them and also in the other popular threads that you post on. Its not only a chance to win some tires but it's good for yotatech!

************************************

While I obviously would not be trying to win a set, I suppose I can still post up my dream trip...

1. I would love to do the entire route 66 and all of the awesome stops along the way. By awesome stops of course I mean any and all bitchin wheeling spots and OHV areas along with the obvious. Toss an enduro bike on the back of my ape and look out!

2. I would love to get a group of at least 10 vehicles to do a California loop like I did around 10 years ago. All through the Angeles Crest and Big Bear and up through Mojave and the Sierras and onward through NorCal and over and down into Auburn and the North American Fork area, and then onward and up to the coastal beauty down from Big Sur and Santa Cruz and ending at Carpinteria State Beach for the avocado festival or Strawberry Festival, depending on which time of year is best for the trip! This took us around 12 days with a couple of days camping here and there, but I would love to expand it now that I have a more capable truck to include the Rubicon and all the obvious stops along the way including the hammers, etcetera etcetera.

3. REALLY would love to wheel across Iceland... All I can say when I watch how crazy these dudes are his, "Wow!!!!" My kind of adventuring!

4. NEW ZEALAND! POWWWW! Just incredible beauty!

I know, I know, that's more than one... But, I figured why not, since I'm ineligible! Haha

Here's my mostly still stock '99. It has a 1" body lft and Tundra brakes so far, not much else. 5 spd manual and a factory locker.

Shortly after climbing a waterfall. The current tires (ahem, not BFG's) couldn't quite handle the slick limestone, I had to get a help from the car in front of me.

The trip I'd like to make is the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands NP. We've done back country stuff in the Maze District, but that was in my wife's more modified 4Runner. I think my more stock truck could handle the White Rim though. I just love being out in the desert. I'm not sure I'd ever want to live there, but I really miss it when I haven't been in a while.

This is from Tahoe, but I would love to wheel this Cruiser up somewhere in Canada or Alaska to see what beautiful scenery the PNW has to offer.

The way that low grass/brush blends in with the trees out on the horizon, it looks like you're on your way over the cliff edge. Trippy!

I have lived in the Midwest (Michigan) my entire life. I have never been west of the Mississippi River. I have always dreamed of taking my family on a road trip to the west coast to see the mountains. On the way, we would stop and see the Grand Canyon. My dream trail would be the Rubicon Trail. We would also swing by and drive through the Redwood forests and scenic mountain passes. Then we would stop in Seattle to visit my daughter, who just moved there recently. We just don’t have anything like mountains or canyons here in the Midwest, its mostly just flat farmland. My wheeling experience is mostly just sandy wooded trails and some mud.

We would need a great all-around tire to take us on this dream trip, and I believe that the new BFGoodrich All-Terrain A/T KO2 would be perfect. It seems well suited for a variety of trail types and highway driving.

My rig is a 2002 Toyota 4Runner with 315/75R16 tires. It is also my daily driver. My current tires have about 40K miles on them, and are pretty much shot. So I could definitely use a new set of tires. The new A/T KO2’s would look great on my truck when it is all cleaned up, or when it is getting dirty.

I haven't been to very many different areas other then a few Deserts here and there with some rocky Big Bear CA action. So both my girlfriend and I have a deep desire to go exploring. Even if it isn't rock crawling like what we are used to, we would love to go on one long road trip/ expedition some day just to see what is out there. We have a bucket list of places we would really like to go exploring some which are not too far of a drive.
Exploring, hiking, camping and offroading is in our blood. So for us, we really want to experience a true expedition with multiple scenic landmarks, hiking, and offroad routes. I personally have never been out of Southern California. Furthest up north I have gone was kern river, and only other place I have been was Las Vegas and back home. So going on a trip like this is kind of a big deal for us. So big that we both decided when we get married we don't want a honey moon; We would rather go on a road trip/expedition like this with a few awesome offroad trials. I Already have the trip mapped out on all the stops and I may be adding onto this later down the road.

1) Starting off from Los Angeles Ca We would hit up multiple California attractions that we have wanted to go to for the past few years followed by gettings some awesome offroad fun in Utah including Moab. followed but 3 stops in arizona

Here is one of mine.

My dream trip would be to traverse as much of the rockies without hitting pavement, getting to as many old and abandoned gold mines and old towns as possible. From Montana down to Colorado and Nevada would be perfect!

The dream trip is across country from East Tennessee to Pismo Beach. Hit the Colorado River for some whitewater action, run the Rubicon to show the *ee*s how its done with IFS, and to camp under all those stars.

My dream trip would be to load up my Tacoma with the family and the Zrunner and travel across the USA stopping in every state to wheel in an off road park or two. Actually hoping to do this in the next year or two. Second possible trip would be to wheel either the Australian outback or Baja...

Start with this..... and go from there......

My dream off-road trip isn't so much a single place. I'd like to get my off-road trailer finished up and a roof top tent mounted to it and travel meeting up with some fellow Yotatech members and go wheeling with them on their favorite trails. Liveoffroad in Colorado posts up some awesome pics of his offroading adventures, the scenery is always amazing, and the trails look very challenging. Closer to me in my home state of Washington is sqWADoosh. He has already invited me to hit up the Naches Pass trails later in the year and I hope to be able to go! Gizler lives in Utah and Kornhuskerwizard isn't to far from him, it would be cool to be able to meet up and go 4wheelin with those guys too! Of course you can't leave out Chef and Redeth, they have posted up numerous pics and videos of their trips, it would be awesome to hit up big bear, especially this time of year, and still be able to wear T-shirt & shorts, lol!
