Write up for replacing 01 4runner alternator?
#1
So as you may have guessed from my post, I'm a newbie but I'm okay with that. I was told that my alternator is weak and I need to replace it, having trouble starting, having to jump my truck every other week when I drive it.
Does anyone know of a good write up for replacing an 01 alternator? I put the supercharger on a couple years ago and just removed the dynamic tensioner but don't know what bolts to target or how to remove the electrical wiring.
Any thoughts or advice? Thanks. Also, if anyone is in Phoenix that does any trail runs on weekends would love to connect with you and potentially tag along. Thanks.

I haven't seen any write ups but alternators are usually simple. You'll find one mounting bolt, and another bolt on the adjuster. Remove both. The wiring just plugs in, most of them only go one way. Take a couple of pics before you start in case you get confused.
The only problem you might have is getting to it with the supercahrger in the way.
I have an 01 also, when my wife gets back with it I'll have a look and see exactly which bolts need to be removed.

And, might pick up a chiltons or haynes manual. I know they SUCK and I've found very little use for them (why I have a few FSM's [Factory Service Manuals] to reference from) but they CAN give you an idea of what to do before you do it. If nothing else they give torque specs (Well, they tend to forget about a lot of bolts but sometimes the one you're tightening is in there =p) ... in any case they generally give you some kind of procedure to follow, or expect to follow.
=p
and your best reference is digital pictures. Take a ton from EVERY ANGLE and along the way. Helps put things back EXACTLY how they were =D
and alternators ARE generally easy to get to and replace. Only thing you might expect are some bolts that might not want to come lose or bolts that are just dang hard to get leverage on.
** If the belt has a lot of play like as in you can easily make it flex with one finger, its probably to loose... on my 22R I use a long steel pipe wedged between the alternator and engine block and lever the thing down and get the other hand in there to tighten the adjusting nut... Usually the tightest i can get the belt is about perfect for the belt tension since the leverage with the bar isnt so great.
