Question Wind up

HELP!
Has anybody thoughts on how/why my hilux pickup seems to be suffering from axle wind up even though its in H2 and the front hubs are unlocked.
Dave.

If you have worn out springs in the rear, or if something has wiggled loose, that would cause the axle to want to wind(wrap). Check for loose u-bolts or other connections at the rear axle, also check the bushings. You don't have over-size tires, do you?

Hello Mudhippy,
Ive got a broken rear leaf spring on the passenger side, the axle only starts to get wound up after 5 miles or so, would this be the cause then.
Thanks for your help mate I appreciate it!
Dave

Yes, that would do it for sure. The spring that's suffering would be a little less stiff, it doesn't take much. It's hard on your driveshaft u-joints and the other bearings invovled. So you should try to get it fixed as soon as you can, before it wreaks to much havoc.

That's never a good thing. If it's toasted the parts can be swapped in from a junker, if there's one available. A shop will charge a pretty penny putting it in for you. So, if you have any wrenching skills you might do the job yourself. It's relatively simple to do a rear axle, as a whole, or just the gears (3rd member).

Its had oil put in and they reckon theres a bit of a whine, but not too bad.
They are changing the spring, so it`ll have to do for now.
I`m too old & bone idle to do repairs now mate.
