Will a 1985 4runner frame work under an '86?

My 86 4runner's frame is really rusty, and have an option to get a 1985 frame. According to the salvage yard hollander system it says 86-87 only. Any body know the difference between the frames besides that the 85 is solid axle and 86 is IFS?

They say that cause the ifs. It should swap just fine. Helped a buddy swap his 88fan pickup cab and from clip on to a 85 pickup frame. Takes time and patience make sure you got the front axle too. New body mount rubbers. Great time to do a body lift too. We put a 1" on my buddy. Used old hockey pucks and put lift spring under it too.

Yeah don't put hockey pucks under your rig. They're rubber and dry rot in 2-3 years lol.

Anyways, the body mounts are going to be off, but you can fab new ones pretty easily. Or just cut the old ones off the frame and weld them in the new spots.

Body mounts should be the same, but your going to have to run the solid axle. Thats one hell of a way to do an SAS. Haha.

DO NOT USE HOCKEY PUCKS.

my guess is that the two front mounts by the core support will be slightly different since the SA frame is slightly higher in the front than the IFS frame..SA frame arches up slightly AFAIK.
