Wife Takes 4Runer To Jiffy Lube - it freaks out
I told her NOT to take it to Jiffy Lube, but at least she was getting the oil changed. Or so I thought.
She leaves Jiffy Lube. I managed to tell her not to let them sell her anything else, so it was just an oil change.
She's about a mile from JL and in her words: "The car started freaking out. All the dash lights came on. The lights dimmed. The car started sputtering and felt like it was going to die. Her father lived nearby, so she managed to get to his house. They start it back up and everything appears fine. Her father cleaned the battery terminal for her and it still appears to be fine today.
Any thoughts on what could of caused that? Would JL disconnect the battery on an oil change? She's supposed to drive it a few hundred miles this weekend and I'm a little nervous about it.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

I'd freak out if I had to go to Jiffy Lube too, at least some of them.
Once I was dropping off some used oil and chatting with the guys at a nearby JL about oil changes on the 4Runner. I mentioned it was a pain to drop the skid and he said they don't, they just hose the skid off before and after the oil change and the oil just comes right off. It's a bit of a stretch and I don't know if the JL your wife went to does that, but if so perhaps a little water went were it shouldn't have?

I'm supposed to start working there next week. I need a job.
I met a guy that came home from the same place with their cordless phone, a rag and a set of keys laying on top of his motor.
Just change your own oil.

Strange things happen in the maintenance world.
"Once saw a guy changing the oil on a Hummer H3. Gentleman drained the oil and re-installed the plug after draining. Removed the old oil filter and disposed of it. He put the new oil filter on the skid plate(Not on the engine where its suppose to go). Brought the truck down removed the oil filter cap and oil dip-stick. Filled the truck up with oil and closed the hood... leaving the oil filler cap and the oil dip-stick on top of the engine and the oil filter still in the skid plate. Guy started-up the truck and drove it out of the shop around the shop building, parked it and turned in the work order. Of course very soon after... most of the shop staff and the customer realized the super duper trail of oil stretching around the building and the oil filter laying on the ground in the parking lot.... Needless to say that customer won't be returning."

Change your own oil. My mom took a Saturn to a minute lube place they drained the oil hanged the filter and didn't put oil back in it. Well it had no gauges and the idiot light didn't come on for some reason. She gets almost home and spins a rod bearing. Calls dad he first thing checks the oil it's empty also confirms the idiot light is not on. He calls the lube shop and they stonewall him saying we're just trying to get a new engine. Right on a car with 30k original miles!! Was cheaper to have a new motor put in vs sue them and they knew it. Lesson learned change your own oil. Also make sure you know all the basic stuff for your car. Teach your significant others the basics as well. M wife can check and change if necessary her oil tranny fluid tires ect. It also has helped her when she needed help when I wasn't around and a dealership mechanic tried to scam her. He probably felt really dumb when she called him on it. Wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that one
