Wheels and Tires Question: 12.5" wide tire on stock 7" wide rim
#1
So one of my buddys has a set of 33x12.5x15r baja claws with good tread that he would sell to me for 200. I was wondering if for one the stock rim is wide enough for a 12.5 inch tire. Also how the would fit and run on my truck. I have a 89 p/u with a 22re 5 speed with stock gears.
Thanks PS sorry if im terrible at searching i just wanted to be sure.

In my opinion 12.50s are too wide for the stock rims. I'd be worried about it popping off the rim, especially when it's aired down. And the 33s will rub some but you can probably fix that by hammering the pinch welds.

It's certainly not recommended. I have stock wheels from some year that are 15x7. My 33x10.50 even bulge a little.
They will fit, yes. But the bead won't be seated to the rim properly, and therefore has a much greater chance of the tire rolling off the bead, even if not aired down. But it's your truck.
Remind us exactly where you live so I can be on the lookout for a Toy flipping over cause the bead popped off and the wheel dug into the pavement.

Check on your local craigslist. Some wheels that fit on Chevy's will fit, aftermarket that is. The center hole has to be 4.250 I believe. Usually cheap chrome steal wheels are big in the center. You are probably going to want some gears when you put them on. Will it work? Sure. But will it have much power? No. 33's are too much for 4:10's. But if you are just offroading, then it will get you by.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I have stock 16x8 wheels...and I run 33x12.5 with no problem. I've only had them for a couple months...and only one chance to air them down...but, no problems.
I do have a 4Runner...but should be close to the same. I'm running 1.25" spacers and did the pinch weld mod...no rubbing since. Great traction and gives it that cool wide stance!

15x7 on 33 12.50 tires here
no troubles, tires will wear more in the center of course, hard part is finding a shop that will do it without trying to sell you new wheels (Big O Tires was cool)
