Whats the best way to build a front bumper to protect?

So I have the worst luck. I rear ended my brother up in the snow. That is the second collision I've been in, and the PO was in multiple also. I though my front was fubar!

It's hard to tell, but the passenger side was pushed back about 2 inches. The body mount and spacer was bent back. I was able to winch it back as much as I could and got the mount and spacer on.

It is a 3 inch body lift, and I plan on keeping it and wanted to see what you guys though would be the best way to build a bumper for offroading and protecting my precious body mounts and front end? Guys got any good pics for me to work off?

Guys here in my town are all about the tube bumpers with the big hoop in the middle, but I don't see those being as strong as some 1/4 inch steel or something. Any help full Ideas? Im willing to buy a bumper that is made for a 3 inch bl

I have a bunch of random metal sitting around and was thinking about buying trail gear winch mounting plate and building off that?

try smackin an addicted offroad bumper against a tree and you will think twice about the strength of a tube bumper.

FYI. roll cages are made of tube as well, nascar uses em, tube can't be all that bad.

Go down to your steel yard and buy some 3/16th plate and start fabbing bumpers. My last homemade bumper survived a 35 mph crash and saved the front of the yota from destruction.

The ones like arb make for mid 90's yotas look great and are strong, given the bodystyle of your truck I would stick to arb design with good approach on each corner things look great on the more square body styles

Nice thing about tube bumpers is they allow better air flow to the radiator. I spent quite a bit of time modifying a TJM bumper to get better air flow. It also helps if you don't cover the front up with lights.

I agree with the airflow but if everything works as its supposed to, the more square bumpers look way better matching a square body style and you'll have the hardest time destroying one

Check out this thread. This kid did a great job and its probably something that you could build. And its not tube. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f88/...bumper-219335/

^ I agree, im building my front bumper like that. Its beefy, not super heavy, and u can make it to fit to any BL. (Assuming u have some basic fab skills)

My bumper for a 3" body lift. Tube is plenty strong, and much lighter than plate. There are some very nice plate bumper builds out there too.

I did read that thread that the kid built. He did a great job. I'm not the best at fabbing, but I have a welder and a brother that knows how to weld (im learning) I have access to a table saw with a cut off wheel and I have a 4 inch grinder....It's possible. But it might be easier if I could come up with about 400 to just buy one. I have a bunch of random peaces of metal, but a front bumper requires angles which Im not good at at all

Looking at that marlin crawler bumper build thread. That is exactly what I was picturing! If I already have the winch mount from TG or others, what gauge metal think I should use? I also have about 20-30 feet of 2x2 square tubing about 1/8th inch thick. been sitting in my garage for years, I will have lots of extras after I build my sliders.
