Whats the best motor choice

I got a 85 yota hilux 4x4. It has a 22r in it with a 5 spd. I want to do a 8inch lift and 37x12.50s. My engine is out and was concidering a ford 5.0 or a chevy 5.7. Ive been told the factory 4 will pull such a setup to not add the extra weight. I want to pull a 16' trailer and 3 quads. Wat is ur thoughts?

1. You don't need 8" of lift to run 37s
2. A domestic V8 in a Toyota is a waste on both accounts.
3. Buy a full size truck.
4. 22RE won't pull that much weight without exploding.

Im guessing my point was missed. I have a 2011 gmc z71. I WANT a 8in lift ik I dont need it. I have 37x 12.50 swamper tsl on it. When I go out to the river to play I want to tow my trailer and quads behind the yota. Wats the point of a cheep play toy if u got to tow it everywhere? My question was not if ppl tjought a domestic engine belonged in the yota or not, the question was would I be better off swapping in a v8 to acomplish my towing goals or can I do it freashing up the 22r and througing in some gears. I dont want tge extra weight of the v8 but either way the truck is going to be towing the other toys.

if you want to put in a v8 to tow that much with the poor thing consider upgrading the frame, suspension, transmission, xfer case, drivelines, differentials, axles, brakes.. then add a few more fuel tanks

i disagree about a 22re towing that. it'll tow it. at 5mph max

So u r tellin me a toyota will not tow 2800 pds?? Ive pulled the same trailer and quads behind a 4 banger ranger with no probs. My concern was the big tires and pulling the trailer.

regear it lol, 5.29s, max speed will be about 45, and whats the point of haveing a play toy if youve got quads? towing a trailer with 3 quads turning 37s and 8inches of lift is a little confuseing to me, if you can afford to get a yota and regear with bigger tires, just lift the quads and have 3 toys instead of a yota, thats my thoughts, and if anything, buy a 45 gooseneck trailer, and with ur z71 tow the quads and toyota at the same time

If your trailer and quads all together really weigh 2500 pounds, you'll be able to tow it...just not very fast. that seems awful light though. 37s will beat up your axles pretty quick. I think some guys on here are running em though. search around.

What about a 4.3 V6 chevy, that's what I'm planning, but I'm going to use a trailer to tow my Toyota.........with my F-350.

Trailer weighs 1100 pds and about 350pds a quad. It wont b all the time and when I do it will only be 20 miles. Once I get time and funds im planin to swap 3/4 axles, np 205, and really want to do a vw turbo diesel, and a better manual trans, and a exo cage.

You are wasting your time and money trying to build what you "want".
There are much better and more feasible options to accomplish playing and towing.

wow for yota fans yall sure are not very cofident in ur brand. Plus being as my land prob has bigger dropoffs deeper mud pits and bigger rocks the most of the off road place ppl go there is a reason I want a 8" lift and 37s.

The point is you don't need 8" of lift to run 37s.
Towing that much weight with your tranny combined with the tires will kill it.
It has nothing to do with brand loyalty, but a firm grip in reality as to the limits of Toyota components.

This one on 37s will crawl anything you got...and then some.

cheapest route.

carb'd 350, with a chevy auto of your choosing.....with an adapter to run the toyota t-case.

axle's will be fine, as long as you aren't trying to break them.

but they won't last long so find some Longfields. or a set of 1tons. but then chances are it won't be street legal because your tires are gonna stick out about a foot on each side.

so narrow them.lol

or you could just buy an older full size chevy 4x4.....since that would be best.

it's not PULLING something in a toyota....it's STOPPING something in a toyota.
