Welding a shock mount, have some questions.

Hello everyone! First time poster (obviously lol) but Ive been reading quite a bit. I just got in to the Toyota scene a couple weeks ago when I purchased a 1990 Pickup 4x4 with a four inch IFS lift, and 4 inch shackles with 54" chevy leaf springs in the rear. Absolutely love her so far!

But, here is the problem...

I took her out wheeling yesterday and broke one of the rear shock mounts off the axle. I want to weld it back on myself, but I cant figure some things out. Mainly, what material the axle is, I know steel, but is it an alloy that I can weld easily?

Is a 120 amp fcaw/MIG welder enough?

Any input is greatly appreciated, and thank you in advanced.

Mark

Why did it break??

Are repairing the old one or making a new one.

when I weld on a axle housing I most often drain the gear oil it most likely need changed anyway. At the very least pull the fill plug out so the gases have a chance to escape.

make it all nice and clean
