tranny swap question

i'm replacing the transmission in my 2nd gen 4runner. the replacement tranny has 150k miles on it. i've got a front seal ready to install. i was wondering if there are any other seals i should replace at this point on the trans or transfer case.

Manual or auto? I am assuming we are talking auto since you said front seal. In that case, you will want to replace the trans pan gasket (which should be a sealant, not a gastet) and obviously the fluid. Other than that, the only seal I can think of are the flange seals which are a PITA to replace.

it's a manual. the previous owner somehow ran the tranny dry on gear oil,and toasted it. i'd throw this old tranny in there as is but i want to make sure i do it right.

Although the Toyota manual transmissions are fairly bullet proof, there is no way that I would drop a 150k gearbox of unknown history into my truck without opening it up.

Most likely, I would at least recondtion it, if not do an all out overhaul.

ok there is a front and rear transmission seal.they were both getting hard and cracking so i replaced them.i may check those flange seals soon as well. it was a bad front flange seal that caused my output shaft bearing to fail on my first truck .it didn't leak gear oil, but it let some water get in.
