My 86 cant flip a u-turn in a pretty wide street so i guess thats how it goes. Your mods probably arent helping either.

Make sure the steering is adjusted properly such that it turns from steering stop to steering stop.

Mine seems to turn ok. Did you make sure the steering box was centered before you installed the pitman arm? And like 4crawler said, check your steering stops.

x2.

Plus, does it turn one direction "sharper" than the other?

My buddy had the same problem when he bought an SAS'd Toyota pickup. Turns out the guy that did the swap got the passenger side steering links mixed up. The drag link was where the tie-rod was supposed to be, and the tie-rod was where the drag link was supposed to be. After he switched it he could turn much better, and much easier.

Put the front end up on jack stands and see if you can do a little detective work to find out why. Maybe something is binding up or not working right. Also, you can try disconnecting the drag link and see if the steering box is turning farther without it hooked up.

On my '85 I was playing around with the steering to see why it was not turning all the way (not a stock axle). In my case, I found it was the drag link that was too short. As I cranked the rod ends out I got more steering throw. But they were too far out to hold well, so I welded a pair of nuts (RH and LH threads) to the ends to make it longer. With the extra length, I was able to get the steering all the way to the stops.
