I'm about ready to put the CV axle back in after changing out the busted boots using a TOYOTA boot replacement kit. It came with two different kinds of grease. One is brown, thicker and stickier used for the inboard joint. The other is black, thinner and looks a lot like just normal grease I use for the driveline, and is used in the outboard joint. The FSM calls for MOLYBDENUM DISULPHIDE LITHIUM BASE grease. I would guess I CAN use the black grease. Thoughts?

 

i don't really think it matters.
i use grease from the gallon tub that has a ford logo on it. works fine for me.

 

Use it, youll be fine.

 

I'm not worried about it not working. I'm worried about it not lasting long.

But now I have a huge problem. I had to disconnect the lower ball joint to get the CV axle out and upper A-arm fell so its all askew and I dont have a bottle jack to jack it back up with. GRGDFGSDFSGDFGfdgf

 

What about the stock one?

 

You need to get either a jack, or start loosening and removing the torsion bar adjusting bolt..
And if you're worried about the grease lasting long, you shouldnt.
Regreasing the spindles should be done once a year, or after winter.
And even more if you wheel the rig.
It takes me 15 minutes to grease mine, make one of the greasing tools and just pump grease through the spindle lol.

 

Thats the one I'm talking about. It doesnt really work on my truck anymore because its too high off the ground. And my friend had it cuz his Taco one was too tall to fit under the lower arm when he got a flat once.
My friend just dropped both bottle jacks off so I'm gtg
I actually didnt know it was a yearly maintenance thing. Hmm. This is the first vehicle to have this problem I have come across. There was actually rust spots in the spindle! I think I will be doing the other side more next weekend. I greased the spindles a few weeks ago. Made the noise quit for like 2 days...

If you greased them thoroughly, you might just need to replace the brash bushings. When they get ovaled out after years, they'll start to chatter a little bit even when well greased.
