Toyota E-Locker Compatibility
I know theres probably a thread for this some were i just cant find it and hopefully this will be helpfull to others as well im kinda desprite and i found a toyota elocker on a 06 4runner and im not sure witch years will match i have an 90 toyota 3.0 rear end and i want to put the toyota elocker in it but i havent seen anyone do it with a 3rd member this new anyone have any thoughts on this i found one dirt cheap on craigs list but deffinatly could use some help thanks

The 06 4Runner did not have an elocker in the rear diff. The 03-09 4Runners didn't get the Elockers untill 08 or 09.
I'm not sure about compatibility but I'd order up a diff gasket from a 96-02 4Runner and one for the newer 4Runners and check the stud count and location differences. May get lucky.

huh i didnt know that i figured it was just 96 and up if you got the e-locker option on your tacoma or 4runner well i guess if what u say is true ill pick up one of those gaskets i belive the part number is 42181-60050 and wish me luck i called the guy and i go cheak it out tomarro afternoon

short answer is: if they're both V6 diffs, and neither are factory 4.88s, then yes you can make the 06 e-locker work in your 90.

well the truck im puting it in is an 85 runner but i bought a 1990 rear out of a 3.0 pickup so i will be puting the elocking 3rd in that rear end then swaping mine 4 it

Made sense to me.
You can put an 06 Tacoma elocker diff in an early truck with some modification (ie cutting the notch, and welding the support plate) They almost the same bolt pattern (except the two longer studs) and driveshaft flange pattern.
Also, Toyota did not offer the Elocker in the 4Runner from 2001-2009. When they introduced the 5th Gen for the 2010 model year, they brought back the Elocker.

Although they were released in late 2009, they are a 2010 model year 4Runner.
Toyota didn't offer Elockers until the 5th generation 4Runner was released. I think that wikipedia article is merely confusing. They are talking about the 2010 4Runner as having the Trail edition options with locker option.

Well dammit, looks like I have been thwarted. 
But now I am intrigued....why would Toyota release the locker in a 2009 body style, then change the body style a year later!?!

so i just got the rear end home and dissasembled at it looks like it will work atleast i hope im gonna start assembleing it later this week but i need to get my 488 hooked up first and my housing fabed

no right on thats funny u say that cuz i just found another one on craigslist for 300obo its of or a 2000 4runner and the guy doesnt seem to know what he has because he keeps telling me its not an elocker but i got him to send me pics and it deffinatly is so im thinking about getting that one 2 for a spare or maby jus for back a back up

damn never mind my computer is being wierd and its not letting me load them but i decided im gonna do the front with an elocker as well so im gonna pick it up i just seen someone do it on pirate forum looks like a good idea the only thing is were do u get the axles to work with that it wasnt a very detailed wright up oh and i also found a really nice switch set up on 12voltguy.com i hear good things about that place but does anyone know if the harnes comes with the switch??
