... through the mountains. Would my truck struggle with this? I'm pulling a 1200lb trailer plus a 600lb motorcycle from Saskatoon, SK to Kelowna, BC. I've got 285s for tires with the 4.10 gears. Oh and I've bypassed the stock tranny cooler with a trucool rated for 80,000lbs.

If you have the 3.4L V6, I would think that there would not be a problem towing except possibly running into high winds. Tow out of O/D and go slow enough to keep the trailer under control. And check your front brake pads for wear before embarking.

 

80,000lbs was a typo, I have an 18,000lb transmission cooler and the stock tranny cooler is bypassed. The vehicle is a 2002 3.4L 4Runner.

 

you'll be fine... i've towed much heavier, much further with much worse motors

 

The most important thing to remember

Getting up the mountain is easy Going down can kill you if you are not careful!!!!

Make sure the tires and brakes are good.

Take your time and be careful you should be ok

 

I towed a little over 5K lbs on my 92 runner (3.0L).

I see you mentioned towing out of O/D, I had thought that was what the ECT power button was for, change my shifting points and didn't seems the truck was getting bogged down as much.

Just be careful when you hit the rockies, what's the general rule of thumb for how to overheat the transmission on these trucks?
