Tow point question

I use 2" tow rec. type shackle for rear towing point.
Now I am thinking about welding tow shackle mounts(see e-bay) on OEM tow hitch. However, OEM tow hitch is not straight and how effect strength?

I always thought towing point should be on straight surface......

Sorry for the unclear question.

Here is what I want to know.

My 93 4runner hasOEM towing hitch, just like pic. below.
*James, I borrow images from your website...)

I want to weld following shackle mounts (below) on tow hitch above

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=020&sspagename=STRK%3AME WA%3APIC&viewitem=&item=300193165041&rd=1

Is it ok? as long as welded solid.
The reason why I am asking this is one guy told me towing point must be on straight steel bumper, like jeep one, you can see on e-bay image.

I just want to hear your opinion about it.

Thanks

FYI: the way you changed the color on your hyperlinks killed the links--copy and pasting sucks

anyway, the ebay shackle points would work fine but you won't get the straight on tow point you are looking for unless you weld them to the bottom of the hitch, killing ground clearance IMO..

Would it work? Yeah, I guess so, but they will be at an angle which will increase the stress/torque on a tube that wasn't designed to handle it.

I am not sure what the thickness of that cross piece is - it's been a while since I took mine off.

I don't see what you gain though. If you 'wheel and need additional recovery/attachment points in the rear, you NEED to get rid of the ground clearance killing hitch! You don't realize how low it hangs down there until you take the bumper off - it's ridiculous!
