Time for a Lift, 2.5" or 1.5"?

It is time to lift my 2000 4Runner. It is a daily driver and is driven on long highway trips. For cost reasons I am giong to probably do a DayStar lift. I want to do a 2.5" lift but how is this height on the front CV joints? Should I settle for a 1.5" lift? Does the height change the stability on the highway?

I did 2 1/2" daystar spacers in the front, over-all I like it, since you have a 2000 runner, you allready sit about 1/2" - 1" higher in the front than my '01 when it was stock. If you did a the 2 1/2" dyatsar spacers in the front, you will have to do a differential drop. Not had, but modding the skid plate was a chore for me. A 1" won't even be noticeable, I would go with the spacers in the front, and OME springs in the rear, that's what I did to keep the cost down. I replaced my shock too, and its probably a god idea to do that. I did not notice any on road hadling effects on road, aside from the gearing with the larger tires. If you plan to go larger on the tires, thrown the 2 1/2" lift on with the diff drop. If you just want to keep the stock tires, and want a more aggressive look go with the 1". Just my .02

I did the Daystar 2-1/2 kit on my 2002 Runner, Rancho shocks and 265/75R 16's. I sit about 4 inches higher than stock! The look is sweet and I've gotten a lot of good comments. Even with the 2-1/2 kit, don't worry about the diff drop...you don't need it below 3 inches of lift. Definitely go higher!

Emptypockets,
How long have you had your spacers on. Any CV bind or vibes? How is the highway/curves stability?

if money is an issue, you can piece together a good lift.

i found front spacers used (2.5"), and bought the diff drop kit, rear ome 891's, and panhard drop bracket for about $310 shipped.

Does the rear of your 4runner sit level or higher? If higher by how much? How is the ride? I do tow so I would want the 891s if I replace the rear springs. What is the measurement from the center of your hub to the wheel well lip?(front and back, please) What year is your 4runner?

I've had the lift on for about 6 months. No issues so far except for a tire that's out of balance, so getting a little steering wheel vibration at about 60 mph. Highway stability is the same as stock and you'll notice a little more leaning into curves with the lift. Once you get used to it, it's really not a problem. No loss of ride quality either.

By the way, Wheelers Off Road has the 2-1/2 inch Daystar kit for about $250 shipped. They're great to work with and helped answer many of my questions. Doing it yourself is possible and will save you money, but it's a tricky installation...especially the front spacers. I took mine to a shop for installation and paid about $300. It was worth it for me. Let me know if you have any questions.

Gerdo, I am installing it all on the 25th. I will take all the measurements, as I am curious to see myself what the differences are. I will take measurements before the lift with stock 265/75/16's, after the lift with the same stock tires, and then I will take measurements with the 285/75/16 Trxus'.

I will post up on the 25th. I am expecting the ride to be better than it is now, as the rear coils have 152k on them. I am also expecting to stay level (i am currently sitting perfectly level), due to everything giving about 2.5".

Once again, I will post up all the specs on the 25th.
