Thinking of 3.4L Swap for 86 PickUp
First off let me start by saying, I love my old 22re. It has 211,xxx on it and still does good in town and on trails. Highway it dont pass much. Also considering SAS since the front suspension is busted. But been reading alot about the 3.4L swap and hear its a great swap for the old Yotas.
My question is it really worth it? Whats it really cost? Is it that big of a headache?

Well, I have a "performance" 22re. 12k miles on it. Runs great. But still can't touch the 3.4. I am going to be doing a 3.4 to my 87. The hard part, which is what you will face, is that you basically have to turn your rig into a 3.0 donor rig. (search for the 22r to 3.4 swaps) one of them shows how you have to grind out the 22re mounts off the frame and weld on the 3.0 mounts. also, you need a 3.0 oil pan, oil pressure sender, Radiator, fan and shroud. Luckily, I have friends here that are willing to help me with the welding, as well as the wiring. If it were just me, I wouldn't have all the resources to finish it. It can be done, Deathcougar just finished his 22re to 3.4. Its not as easy as a 3.0 to 3.4 or even a 22re to 3rz. But can be done.

WOW! not sure I can do all that in the back yard lol. I have a 4 wheel mag that has them swapping a 2.7L in to a old 86 Yota they call "Scampy". Will have to search around for. hope wife didnt throw it out. I think there swap was done at Marlins shop.
