if I can yank a jeep wrangler in the dirt and a geo tracker out of 2feet of snow I think it will do fine pulling a miata for a bit on the street.

If it makes you feel any better a 1,500hp Formula 1 car wouldn't pull a Miata on a tow dollie...

So get "96hp" out of your head...

Don't have your buddy do you do. I agree with Mudd don't let someone else mess up your ride. Your truck should be alright to tow it.

miatas are like ~2100+ lbs. Minor for your truck. If anything drop her into 4Lo with unlocked hubs (don't expect to go very fast)

Getting it on the dolly might be a challenge though. I they sit kinda low and the ramps maybe a bit steep for it.

Take it slow and you'll do fine. Just remember to make the turns a bit wider.

If it's got stock tires. It will pull it.

There are two types of pulling... One is nice and slow, you let the engine pull the car, not flooring it and abruptly loading and unloading the driveline...

Then there's the big Dodge and Ford guys that what to show you what they got in their pants and pull crap like it's not even back there...

A Toyota will pull... Like the 1st one...

You don't have experience though and you don't sound confident... You also sound 12.

A long enough haul... I don't think you're up for it. A short one, yeah...

I towed plenty with my 93 Toyota truck (22RE) without a problem except one. If you have 4wd lock the hubs before you take out. I had a car behind mine once and it would push terrible....almost pushed me through an red-light and when I went into a curve it pushed the back-end loose.....but I popped it into 4WD and straitened it out.

Pulling is not the problem....Stopping could be! Remember....Loose means you DO NOT see the wall before you hit it!

I would avoid 4wd and 4lo altogether on pavement.

I concur...keep the hubs unlocked. Just take your time, it's not a race, let them pass.

You guys are telling a total N00b at towing to lock his hubs?

I can see it now... Car gets out of shape for whatever reason... Kid pulls it into 4WD, only he's at full lock, or about to be... you know, to counter steer.

Front end catches and violently snaps the front end to the direction the front wheels are turned...

That's about a jackknife or roll if you're going fast enough...

It's like towing with a jacked up AWD... Don't counter steer that trailer when it breaks. At high speeds you will roll it.

And as long as the the TC isn't locked, it won't improve on the brakes any...

You're better off letting it come to a stop and living with flat spotted tires...

Easy there nugget, NO us "GUYS" are not telling him to lock the hubs, Please read...the hub thing was suggested above for stopping issues. Which I really don't agree with having locked hubs on dry pavement. I'm saying not to.

I'm just telling him to be careful take wide turns and take it slow. If he does it right the Miata will follow him to where ever he needs to go.

The prob would be starting and stopping IMO. Years ago i had to tow a big ass boat, I couldn't say no to GF'S father. Man I was sweating bullets, up and down hills. ButI made it.

if he's gonna take it slow what's wrong with keeping hubs unlocked and putting it in 4lo?

I drive in 2wd 4lo in traffic all the time. Never had any problems with it, so i dont see why it shouldnt be done with a trailer.
