T-100 engine swap??

looking for some advise regarding what my best option is. 256K miles on my '93 T-100 and head gasket just went. looking into purchasing a new engine. can i up grade to larger than the standard 3.0 v6 that's in it or is not worth the head ache. Any options for 3.4l or any diesel options?

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

The 3.4 is, indeed, possible. Your best solution would be if you could find a late model T-100 that already had the 3.4 in it, as well as the same style transmission. Then it would be a pretty straight forward parts swap.

Since your chances of tripping over that situation are pretty slim, you could still make it happen with a 3.4 from a Taco or 4Runner. It would just require some more work to do it.

Check out the 3.4 section under Engine Swaps, and you'll get a better idea of what you'll encounter.

i wonder... if the 3.0 was underpowered in the smaller hilux trucks, then how was it supposed to be better in the T100, a bigger truck? seems toyota was on drugs....

thanks for the help, looked through the engine swap section before I posted and didn't find any swaps of T-100. But the links you listed seem to be straight forward in the other models.

Been searching for the right 3.4L to get and kinda holding out to find one out of a T-100, slim pickn's out there for anything without a poop ton of miles. If not I'll settle for 4runner or taco engine, seems to be more out there and I got some good help, real mechanic's instead of my ass, doin the swap once I lock down the engine. thanks again,

Does anyone know if the 2006 3.4 L will be able to go into my '93 T-100? found one with really low miles at a halfway decent price. didn't want to get it and find out I should have bought something from 97 or 98 to make it work.

Thanks again for taking the time to help, very much appreciated!!!

I'm pretty sure 2004 was the last year of the 5VZFE.

Yeah, Toyota had poor sales of the T100s because of that engine.

Ya, they replaced the 5vzfe (3.4L) with the 1grfe (4.0L v6) in '05
