Suspensions questions

Does anyone have any recommendations for some new shocks that are reasonably priced. I really like some of the chrome ones I have seen but really want to find reasonable priced ones. Thanks everyone.

I like these shocks you posted and hear great things about them. I wonder how long they will last and if they can handle the same abuse, water & mud, and last as many miles as other standard shocks I used to have on another 4runner and this one.

Sure, I thought they looked great. I guess everyone is different but I really like the chrome shocks I saw on a few trucks over the years and have found them quite hard to find. I also like some of the nice polished aluminum ones I have seen and would even buy a good set of coil overs if I could find an affordable set for the first gen 4Runner. Chrome is not for everyone bud, but I for one like chrome on everything from my drag muscle cars Chevy's, to my Auto-Cross Honda's, to my Toyota 4X4 trucks/SUV's.

Do they make these for my truck in a 4" lift and can you recommend an affordable place to check these out?

Check out the bilstein 5125 shocks. They are reasonbly priced and work very well. Steve at Sonoran Steel may be able to get you some shocks, or you can try Marlin Crawler but I am not sure if they stock them for independent front suspension's.

www.marlincrawler.com

www.sonoransteel.com

FYI - Bilstein 7100's are probably more than you need unless you do alot of high speed desert driving, etc...

The 7100's will hold up to anything that you mentioned, but so will the 5100 series and they're about $100 less per shock.

Neither will mount in the front with out modification if you're on IFS because you can't get them in a pin/eye combo...

Well they sound like some great shock but it also sounds like these will not work considering that the 86 4Runner is IFS. I do not have plans of converting to a strait axle so what is a good shock that I can use with the 4" lift that is both reasonably priced and can take some abuse.

I really like the www.sonoransteel.com website. I am also in Tempe too. Unfortunately I did not see any of the suspension they have will fit my 86 IFS.
I also like the www.marlincrawler.com website as well. I see they have the really nice Bilstein shocks but they will not fit my truck either.

You could use a pin to eye converter to mount the Billies and use a shock with 1" less travel.

Who makes those converters and where can I get them? Sounds like it would be worth it to loose only an inch of travel to have better shocks but you would think with all the high demand for first gen 4Runner off road equipment, that someone would make good shocks comparable to the Billies? I am interested in the converter though...

$80 bucks each is a reasonable price. Thanks Mike, I will look into those.
