Stumbling Idle, new engine, please help.
Ok I cant figure this out for the life of me.
1995 4runner 22re brand new rebuild. 175psi compression across the board, timing set to factory 8* BTDC.
Engine ran fine for the first two days and then developed a weird idle issue. it looks like cyl 2 is not firing, but it is.
When I pull the plug wire when the engine is cold there is a big difference in idle speed. once the engine is warmed up and I pull the plug wire nothing changes. If I pull the plug wires on any other cylinders the engine idle stumbles even more.
In higher RPM the cyl is firing. I pulled the spark plug and its a nice golden tan color like it is supposed to be. So it is getting fuel.
Another thing I noticed by accident (I was replacing injectors for new ones thinking that may be my issue and forgot to put the gasket back in between the EGR and Intake) is that when I had a major vacuum leak the motor ran funny. But when I pulled cyl number 2 plug wire it did make a difference in idle and stumbled right down.
Could it be my EGR putting out too much in to the intake and suffocating cyl 2 ? You can feel the miss by putting your hand to the tail pipe. Its not a strady exhaust stream.
I did fail NOx the other day when doing the emissions test, However I think that may be my fault because I accidentally set the ignition timing to 16* It passed on idle just not in high RPM. Passed everything else though.
So if anyone knows what my issue may be, let me know. I'd love to clean up the idle on this car.
I checked the TPS, its fine, Timing is fine and there are no vac leaks, I sprayed the engine down with carb cleaner and no difference in RPM.
