RE-RE, you can't just open up the ADD diff without losing 4x4.

You can if he has a spool. The diffs are the same it just has a slide collar on one side to disconnect the wheel from the diff, think of it as unlocking the hub, but on the other side of the CV, and if you hooked up the vacuum (No idea what this would take) you could "unlock" your drivers wheel from inside.

Was just an idea....

Oh ok i see what you're saying, but it would be tricky to hook up the vacuum lines like that. The stock ones are connected to the transfer case shifter which is why i said you can't keep 4x4, to unlock it you are losing drive from the front driveshaft. He doesn't have stock lines anyway, so he would have to run vacuum lines to a separate switch that could cut off the vacuum.... would be pretty cool but kinda time consuming and probably not easy.

Do you mean the factory lines that ran to my old diff (my original diff) if so I still have them. I think that is what was in my truck originally since my wheel hubs were just the bolt on plates, you know what I mean.

Yeah those are the ones, but if you were to do this it would probably be easier to run new regular vacuum lines to a vacuum source in the engine compartment with some sort of cut off switch to disconnect the fork on the ADD axle tube.

A question for anybody with ADD on their trucks... you guys can still shift from 4 wheel to 2 wheel while you are moving right?

Yeah that's what i figured, as long as both wheels are spinning about the same speed anyways. 4 low is a different story. This thread has got me thinking and I might end up doing this to my truck since I'm putting an ADD diff with 4.88's into my truck in the next few months, it would save about $300 on a locker.

Does anybody know if there is some sort of a switch you can buy to open/close a vacuum line?
